John's GIF

While not usually my usual demeanor, this semester has indeed been a trying one in many ways.

(In total, this is about 20 frames; the process of aligning every photo was rather painstaking in Photoshop, but I am happy with the final product).

Lillian's Gif

My gif represents my love of Fall! It is my favorite season because you can cuddle up in a blanket and drink tea to keep warm. I also love sitting around the fire; both in the fireplace inside and outside in a fire pit. This is why I included a plotagrph element of moving fire. (My laptop is not really on fire do not worry!!!!!!)

Project 2 idea

Dragons are going to represent rich people and large companies. The sculptors are going to be working hard to make more scales and larger wings for the dragons. The sculptors represent everyday people working their lives away to support the upper class and large business without realizing it.

Not Sure how to pull up the score, I wanted to stop the madness. Great game though!
My project as of now will center around themes of mysticism, alchemy, and witchcraft. What will be the underlining subject of the work, I am not sure yet but I know it will be something that has to do with the environment and in general our behavior towards nature as the ultimate giver and less of a beneficiary. So far this is all I have going for me, although I have to be honest as I am diving into uncharted territory since I am not familiar with any of these themes. These themes are much more of a reality, and less of folklore or mythology as they were a real practices of accent times. But I think that there is much to explore here, on a level of a tradition which nonetheless, belongs to us.

Project 2 Electric Boogaloo

I only have one idea so far, but I thought about the myth of Sisyphus and how he rolled a boulder up a hill only for it to come rolling back down. Well basically I would use the earth instead and he tries to roll it up to clean it, but it gets dirty as he rolls it up and then it rolls back down once he starts to clean it.

Project Two Idea

I stumbled upon the idea of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf relating to climate change. The two pigs that went for the more convenient housing solution of straw and sticks respectively, had their houses huffed and puffed by the big bad wolf. The more convenient energy resource humans run on is fossil fuels. Unfortunately the whole world will be huffed and puffed by increasingly extreme natural disasters, the full consequences are yet to be seen. The third pig knew to prepare for the worst, even if it was less convenient for them. If humans would collectively acknowledge the science and take the less convenient path which would be solar, wind, hydro and nuclear energy; the consequences of climate change could be lessened and avoided for future generations.

Project 2 Idea

I would like to focus on deforestation and how it effects Paul Bunyan and other similar folklores. I was thinking about having a few of them meet up and combat it. Deforestation is a growing issue across the globe and does not get as much recognition as it should.

Project 2 Idea

My idea for this project is to show how different human impacts can affect the setting of a story. I wanted to focus on different fairytales and how the story would look different in a changing environment. Some ideas I had were :

  • Sleeping beauty sleeping on a bed of trash in the woods
  • The big bad wolf in a small patch of woods in a crowded city
  • The little mermaid in polluted water
  • Princess and the frog with a mutated frog (maybe close to Chernobyl)
  • Rapunzel's tower overshadowed by skyscrapers
I want to set in up in a city and make it sort of look similar to Google maps where you can walk through the streets. I want to make it so that you can visit different characters houses and interact with some of the objects in the area.

Bezier Game Results-Maggie Green

Project 2 Idea-Maggie Green

I want to do a fairytale storybook kind of website.  It'll be the story of a female knight who, despite doing just the same or even sometimes better than her male companions, gets less recognition and less pay for her feats.

Project 2 Idea(s)

  • Nu Wa was a goddess in Chinese Mythology who is mainly credited with the creation of human beings. She's most popularly presented as half human half snake.
    • Past: The image of NuWa creating human beings with clas; Present: The same image became the advertisement for a new form of plastic surgery
  • The Chinese folk legend of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl:
    • The Cowherd stole the Weaver Girl's clothing and proposed his love for her, the Weaver girl called the police who put the Cowherd in jail and send the Weaver Girl home in a rocket. Weaver's girl's parents educate her on how dangerous it is in the mortal world and how she should never leave the heavenly realm ever again and call to her attention about the inflammation on her skin caused by the polluted water she bathed in. Weaver girl refuted that the waters in the clouds are no better. Her parents grounded her and tell her to go weave more clouds. Weaver girl complained that no one can see the colorful clouds she weaved through the excessive smog.

Project 2 Idea by A.J. Jones

For this project, I wanted to touch on natural disasters since it's something that can be felt by anyone in the U.S. and is mostly outside of human control. Additionally, this was inspired by the California fires since I have friends and family out there and those who were hurt by Hurricane Katrina.

I want to display the 3 little pigs stories but with the Big Bad Wolf in the form of different elemental disasters that takes down the pigs homes such as hurricanes, earthquakes, forest fires, and tornados. The pigs homes can symbolize can symbolize two different ways. It can be that no matter how strong a home may be, it can still be lost. Or, it can be that what was a pig's brick home is destroyed and must move into a cheaper and weaker structure.

A hope in the story is that by banding together in tough times and showing love to one another, humanity becomes stronger (1 little pig becomes 3).

Project 2 Idea: Paul Bunyan vs. Modern Times

As mentioned last Wednesday, my idea for this project concerns how the general public of modern times would react to Paul Bunyan. Naturally, being a giant lumberjack would leave him much less popular in an era more conscientious of the deleterious effects of over-logging. Perhaps he could be co-opted by logging corporations as a sort of spokesman for their cause? At any rate, his abnormal size would make him a logical symbol for excessive deforesting. This idea is admittedly in its infancy, but I do feel that it has potential.

Project 2 Initial Ideas

This is in very early stages, but I had an idea of incorporating Gulliver's Travels with some satirical take on COVID-19 or the excessive political discussions that saturate today's media.  I am unsure how this would translate into a narrative other than viewing the current world situation through a third-party lens.

(Maybe COVID-19 could become the giant that is Gulliver initially promising not to hurt anyone...  my mind can picture everyone in the picture below wearing masks.)

The 6 Million Dollar Story • Gulliver's Travels by Annie Leibovitz for Moncler Spring/Summer 2016

Project 2 Idea

For project 2, I was thinking of tackling rising sea levels with the mythology of dragons. Most people believe dragons to be fire breathing creatures so it stands to reason that such a creature would be wary of rising water and try to get away from it. But what happens when the water rises too much and the dragon has no where to go? Dragons are large creatures that are typically solitary in most mythologies so they wouldn't want to be in close proximity to each other which would become an unfortunate challenge when their habitats are being flooded and they all have to move further inland.

Initial Project 2 Idea-Lillian Gordon

I am thinking of basing my project on deforestation and discovering how the modern issue would effect witches. In my project, I would like to include the difficulty of making potions due to species loss, having her cabin out in the open/destroyed by construction workers and broomstick shortage. More ideas are welcome!
